The Role

SkySelect is looking for a seasoned DevOps engineer with at least 5 years of relevant experience in web infrastructure technologies to join the Tallinn development office.
You will join a team of senior developers and will lead the DevOps function.
This position is for someone who loves to wear many hats, is passionate about tuning and tinkering and maintaining a mission-critical platform with minimal turnaround time.

The technical stack of the project:

  • Backend: PHP (Laravel/Symfony/Silex/custom), Node.js, Python
  • Persistence: MySQL, Redis
  • Frontend: Vue.js, AngularJS, jQuery
  • Deployment: Terraform, Puppet, Linux, AWS, TeamCity
  • Tools: JetBrains and Atlassian Suite (PhpStorm, WebStorm, JIRA, GitHub/Bitbucket, etc.)
  • Development environment: macOS, Linux VMs, containers.


  • Strong background in Linux/Unix Administration and shell scripting
  • Understanding the building blocks of modern web, tools and protocols (HTTP/S, TCP/IP, DNS, SSH)
  • Experience with container technologies (Docker, ECS/EKS/GKE, Kubernetes)
  • Experience with AWS and detailed knowledge of multiple AWS cloud services (such as EC2, RDS, Lambda, Route53, CloudWatch, etc)
  • Experience with logging and performance monitoring tools such as New Relic
  • Experience with automation and declarative configuration management (Terraform and Puppet)
  • A working understanding of code and script (Python or PHP)
  • Knowledge of database architecture, high availability, failover, and performance tuning
  • Experience with distributed systems and SOA
  • Experience in iterative development and fast-growth environments
  • Ability to dig into existing infrastructure, know how to refactor for performance, reliability and maintainability
  • Great technical writing and communication skills


  • Good knowledge of relational databases and MySQL
  • Understanding of information security concepts (ISO 27001, OWASP)
  • Continuous development and testing methodologies and tools such as TeamCity or Jenkins
  • Ability to build your own tools


  • Build and support the development and testing environments
  • Build and support a performant, reliable and fault-tolerant enterprise-grade production environment
  • Configure and use monitoring tools to collect insights for detection, resolution of infrastructure problems and develop strategies to prevent them
  • Manage continuous integration tools and pipelines.
  • Contribute to implementation decisions and help engineering teams make the right call
